Quick Overview

TLXOS RePC is ThinLinX's "green" O/S for repurposing old PCs as thin clients or digital signage devices, intended mostly for old laptops.  It also supports modern hardware (although TLXOS SFF is a better choice for this, if it supports your hardware).

RePC is intended for stationary mains-powered use, not for "road warriors" (for that, please consider using a conventional Linux O/S instead).

Details

TLXOS Repurposed PC (RePC) is ThinLinX's dedicated function O/S for outdated x86 hardware.  If your hardware was contemporary with Windows 7 or earlier and doesn't run Windows 10 well (or at all), your can use RePC to turn it into a thin client or digital signage device.  TLXOS RePC aims to support as broad a range of x86-based hardware as possible, including laptops virtual machines under various virtualization platforms.  It is intended for use with permanently connected mains-powered devices and therefore doesn't support battery power management (hibernation etc).  RePC uses a dual-kernel, single-userspace solution that supports both 32- and 64-bit-capable hardware running as close to optimally as possible (for this compromise).  RePC will run a 64-bit kernel if your CPU is 64-bit capable, and is therefore not limited to 4 GB of RAM.

TLXOS RePC is your best choice if you don't know whether or not TLXOS SFF supports your hardware - RePC is basically a superset of SFF.

Currently supported remote access protocols include Citrix HDX, VMware Horizon, RDP, VNC, X11-XDMCP, SPICE, NX, HTTP/HTTPS/FTP (Chromium web browser), MS Teams, Parallels RAS (formerly 2X), SSH, Telnet,TN3270 and TN5250 (IBM mainframe).  Digital Signage is also available, using a combination of local applications for presentation of still images and videos from local storage and Internet content (including PDF files) from remote web servers.

All TLXOS editions can be remotely managed using our free management console, TMS.
